Merry Christmas Eve!

What's going on guys? I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday with their families and want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to those who don't celebrate Christmas. Tonight, every one will be dreaming of what they will get from Santa in the morning, but for us hockey fans, the dreams of an NHL season might have to stay a dream.

Anyway, today I have a couple of hockey concepts as well as my first baseball concept for the blog! As well as a new layout for my concepts. The blog is still going to be mostly hockey concepts but as I've said for a while, I want to incorporate more sports into the mix. So here's to another year for SMC!

Now, onto the concepts...

Over the summer, the UConn Huskies men's hockey team announced that they will be joining Hockey East in 2014 and play games at the XL Center (Formerly the Hartford Civic Center). And being from Connecticut, this is really exciting news! Seeing that Hartford's professional hockey future is in serious doubt with the CT Whale's lease being up at the end of this season as well as AEG's agreement to run the building. Anyway, the Huskies introduced these uniforms a few years ago for an anniversary season and I made some minor modifications.

The Peterborough Petes are one of the most iconic teams in the CHL/OHL. Their uniforms now are similar to those that the Colorado Avalanche wear, but here, I returned them to the style they had before they switched to the Edge system.

Now here is my first baseball concept on the blog...This is a Sandy Hook Elementary tribute jersey concept for the New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League (AA), my home town team. It features Sandy Hook's school colors, the Town of Newtown, CT seal as well as the names of the twenty-six victims. Here's a close up:

Tough Times In Conn.

Hey guys! All or most of you have heard by now of the tragic events that have occurred in Newtown, Connecticut, about a 30 min drive from where I am. I'm not going to get into talking about it because I don't think this is the right place to do so. But as you can see, at the side of the page, I posted a black ribbon in honor of the 26 who lost their lives.

Now onto the concepts...

Today, I have the last, that's right, THE LAST of my ECHL redesign. And here they are! I really don't feel like writing a caption for them so feel free to leave a comment!

Goodbye Phoenix, Hello Arizona!

Whats going on guys! Not much has been going on with NHL lockout since the last post but the players and owners have agreed to meet face to face without the players union today and early indications are that they went well enough for them to meet again tonight or tomorrow. I'll believe it when it actually happens. Also, the Phoenix Coyotes are going to change their name! Well, not much of a name change but more like a location change in their name. They will be changing it to the Arizona Coyotes. It's sort of seems right since the Coyotes haven't played in Phoenix since their arena in Glendale was built. It also stated in the lease agreement with the city of Glendale that they had to change the name. Any way here is what I think the Coyotes sholder patch will look like when it happens:

In a nutshell, I think they will just replace the "PHX", the abbreviation for Phoenix with "AZ", the abbreviation for Arizona.

On to the concepts...I have on ECHL concept and my two entries to HJC's NHL expansion competition which it in the voting stage right now. I don't have time to explain them so I encourage you guys to leave your thoughts and feedback in the comments section!

Black Friday

Hey guys! As i promised, I have a couple more concepts for my ECHL redesign. Getting down to the last few teams. Hopefully I can knock them out and post them soon. Today is also Black Friday! I would never be caught dead standing in line at midnight (or earlier) at a store to get items that will be a t more of a discount closer to Christmas. Anyway, here are the concepts. What's happening guys? Just wanted to wish the American readers a Happy Thanksgiving and working off their triptafan comas! I've been busy with some things the last little bit but I hope to get another post done with at least one or two concepts sometime tomorrow. Posts also might become a little more scarce soon due to the fact that I'm attempting to get a job. A person can only go so long being at home and doing nothing without going insane! Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

What's happening guys?! Well, a lot has happened since the last post, non-hockey related things that is. The east coast got hammered by Hurricane Sandy last week with widespread devastation in New Jersey, New York and the Connecticut shoreline and today, we are getting the first snowfall in CT. Looks like it's gonna be a crazy winter in the northeast.

The NHL and NHLPA have resumed talks and are meeting for the second day in a row and for the third time in five days since not talking for two weeks. If all goes well, we could have a season come December...It's getting real tough to be optimistic on having a season after the Winter Classic being cancelled.

On to the concepts.

Today I have two more ECHL redesigns and a Montreal Canadiens throwback concept. So let's get to 'em!

A lot of people want the Canadiens to bring back their retro third jersey and I'm one of them! It's really unique and it compliments their home and roads really well by blending the elements from both jerseys together.

The Reading Royals sport a recolored Flyers jersey for a home jersey and a black jersey with "READING" in the Rangers style for a road jersey this season. Before, they had recolored Flames jerseys. The jerseys now are a huge step down from what they had. Although here I gave them recolored Bruins jerseys, I think it works really well for them. It would have been too easy to go with purple LA Kings jerseys or Manchester Monarchs jerseys.

This season marks the first season for the Bulls. They sport recolored mid-90's Sabres jerseys with Flyers inspired name-bars. Here I gave them a simple set with traditional striping based on their socks stripes. I do wish they would come out with some sort of a shoulder patch.

There's A Sorm Coming!

Hey guys! I have a quick post for you with two more ECHL concepts. I also wanted to get this post up now due to Hurricane Sandy bearing down on us here in New England and if it's gonna be anything like last years tropical storm and Halloween snow storm I may not have power for a while.

Here are the concepts!

These jerseys are based from the uniforms used in the ECHL All-Star Game when it was in Ontario, CA, which is the same template as the Phoenix Coyotes' alternate jersey.

This year, the second incarnation of the Solar Bears are celebrating their first season since winning the last IHL Championship twelve years ago. The solar bears have very unique uniforms and color scheme and I tried to keep the same elements intact. I did however give them matching pants since they use plain black that doesn't match at all.

As everyone has heard by now, the New York Islanders announced that they are going to set up shop at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2015 when their lease in Uniondale, NY is up. Although the move is still a few years away, they said there will be no changes to logos and uniforms.

Back to the ECHL

Hey guys! After thinking of a team to do a concept for it occurred to me that I had forgotten about my ECHL redesign (even with the huge banner at the top of the page). So I got a couple done to get a quick post done. Let's get to them!

First off, this is the second time I have used the "Buffa-slug" template in my redesign. With the same color scheme! I think it works for the Jackals and the Wings.

This past off-season, the Wranglers unveiled new logos to coincide with their tenth anniversary. A couple weeks of ago they took the ice in very basic red and white uniforms and the only trace of black was in their crest, shoulder and anniversary logos. Although black uniforms are starting to be over done in sports, I knew for a fact that their uniforms would look a hell of a lot lot better with black.

That's it for today. Just a quick thought. Isn't it weird that ECHL doesn't stand for anything anymore? It used to mean East Coast Hockey League but since they now have teams as far west as California, they changed it to just ECHL. So here's discussion question, If you had the chance to rename the ECHL, what would you rename it?

A Sunday Post

So the start of the NHL season was supposed to be this weekend. I hope everyone is finding ways to get their hockey fix or found other things to do to supplement the extra time. For me, I have the Connecticut Whale. I went to their home/season opener on Friday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Whale had a strong first period but epically broke down in the second period giving up five goals. The highlights of the game were Kris Newbury had two goals, Rangers playoff hero from last season, Chris Kreider notched his first regular season pro point and recently signed NHL vet and former Ranger/Lightning/Senator, Matt Gilroy notched a point.

Anyway, it's been another slow week for me with hammering out concepts but I have a cuple to share with you today. So let's get to them.

 Originally, this Whalers concept was planned to be my entry into HJC's Whalers redesign comp. But I had a hard time making a matching home jersey look good. So this is now a theoretical alternate.

For this senators concept, I tried to give them a traditional looking set while giving a nod to their original jerseys and also a nod to the original Ottawa Senators. **I do realize that I had spelled "Ottawa" wrong**

Black & Blue

Another week into the lockout and now the first two weeks of the NHL season have been cancelled. Luckily the lockout doesn't affect the AHL. The Rangers' "Blueshirts United" blog is streaming the CT Whale- Adirondak Phantoms game at 5:00pm eastern today so I'm gonna jump right into today's concepts which include the colors blue and black and two more from my ECHL redesign. Enjoy!

This is a direct transfer of what the Gladiators wear now to the Reebok EDGE system.

The Steelheads current uniforms are very unique. But, are very difficult to pull off in the EDGE system. So I thought a simple template would work with the color scheme. What do you guys think?

This concept was going to be my entry to the Blades' jersey contest that is currently being held. But, I don't think it's original enough to win. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated on this concept or for a new one.

To finish off the post, this IceHogs concept is based off a special event jersey they wore a cuple of years ago. I saw a similar modified logo for Rockford on HJC a while back but I can't remember who did it.

ECHL Re-Design Part Five

What's going on guys? I got some time to get some concepts done last night and i'm just gonna jump right into them.


Florida Everblades Concept

For the Everblades, I brought them back to more a traditional look rather than the re-colored Hurricanes jerseys they have now.


Fort Wayne Komets Concept

Here I just converted what the Komets wear now to the Edge template.


Greenville Road Warriors Concept

And again, I just converted what the Road Warriors currently wear to the Edge template.

Possible NHL13 Jersy Leaks and Some Concepts Too

Hey guys! So yesterday I finally got my hands on NHL13 and while looking at the jersey combos for the AHL teams I stumbled upon some jerseys i've never seen before and here they are:

 



As you can see, the Springfield Falcons, Toronto Marlies and the Worchester Sharks seem to have new jerseys for this coming season. The Falcons are using a jersey similar to the road uniform of the Tri-City Americans(WHL) with their Springfield Indians inspired alternate logo that they have been using as their center ice logo the last two seasons. While the Marlies and the Sharks are going with the uniforms of their parent clubs. In fact, sportslogos.net confirmed on their twitter page this week that the Marlies will have new jerseys this year. So maybe these are them? I guess we will find out when these teams open their seasons on October 12th.

For some reason the other day and idea popped into my head with the Rangers' liberty logo on the Kitchener Rangers' alternate. All I have to say is that it looked better in my head...

Here I added hem stripes to the Sting's alternate from the past two seasons and made a matching home white to make a new set for them.







ECHL Re-Design Part Four

EDIT: After publishing this post, I realized that today is the one-year anniversary of the plane crash that killed the entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. Thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the friends and family of those who passes in the crash.



ECHL Re-Design Part Three

I hope all the American readers had a relaxing holiday weekend! I only have one today so I'll just get to it.

Colorado Eagles Concept

The Eagles have similar uniforms to the Avalanche's pre-edge uniforms. So with that, I gave them a similar uniforms that the Avalanche wear now. I know it looks bland but with the absence of new uniforms this offseason I havent had much inspiration.

Again, sorry for the lack of posts and concepts. It's kinda hard to think of new designs during the offseason. I hope that my creative juices will start really flowing come October when at least the AHL season starts. Thankfully theres a team in my back yard in Hartford. Go Whale!

Ontario Reign Jersey Contest

I just wanted to update everyone on the specialty jersey contest that the ECHL's Ontario Reign were holdong.

 

The final four designs have been chosen and are now up for a vote by the fans on the Reign's website. Sadly, my entry is not among the final four.

ECHL Re-Design Part Two

Hey Guys! I have been sort of busy since the last post and only have one re-design concept for you. I do have a cuple others that I was able to squeeze time in to make.


Cincinatti Cyclones Concept

I actually had a hard time trying to find the right look for the Cyclones. But the "Swoop" template seemed fitting since their main logo/mascot is a tornado.


Dallas Stars Concept

I made this for HockeyJerseyConcepts.com's Stars re-design contest that is currently in the voting stage. I think their logo looks great in the Dallas Cowboy's colors.


SMC Jersey Concept

Here is a Jersey that I would love to be made for myself. I know it's basically a L.A. Kings jersey with my logo on it but it's one of my favorite jerseys in the NHL right now.

ECHL Re-Design Part One

Hey guys! I have a cuple of re-design concepts and thought I would start posing them.


Alaska Aces Concept

For the Aces I basically left their uniforms unchanged and converted them to the Reebok EDGE template.

Bakersfield Condors Concept

I based these uniforms on a special event uniform they wore to commemorate the ECHL All-Star game that was hosted by the condors last season.

Re-Design Announcement!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to announce that I am going to do an ECHL re-design series. I haven't set a specific date as to when it will start but they will be posted as they are finnished.

I also just wanted to remind everyone that my Federal Hockey League re-design is on hold until their season is under way. Reason being is that there were a few relocations this offseason. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Bruins Anniversary Logo Concept

This is one of my few attempts at making logos. To tell the truth, i kind of suck at it but i think this came out decent. For it i tried to combine different eras of Boston's history. The spoked circle that they have used for may years, their famous black and gold and i even threw in the brown they use in their first ten years in the league.

Here is a jersey concept with my logo as a sholder patch. I saw a concept similar to this on a google search and thought it would look great as an anniversary jersey.


Sorry i haven't posted anything in a while. I'm having a hard time thinking up new ideas since it's the offseason in hockey. Maybe the next post will have a football concept since the preseason is starting!
